The six Santa Fe Hi-Level lounge cars were some of the most beloved pieces of railroad equipment ever built. They served passengers on the Santa Fe El Capitan train from July 1956 to Aprl 1971. These cars also saw service on various Amtrak trains for 47 years, including as first class Pacific Parlour Cars on the Coast Starlight. In 2018, Amtrak decided to sell of its heritage fleet, including the Pacific Parlour Cars, to private owners. Ex-Pacific Parlour "Napa Valley" ended up being bought by the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad... and re-named "Namekagon View". It went into service as a wine and cheese train.
This 52-page all-color book tells the history of the Santa Fe Hi-Level lounges and Amtrak Pacific Parlour Cars with many pictures and historical information provided. The Midwest Rail Rangers released this book (in September 2019) in partnership with the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad. The Midwest Rail Rangers also produced a short documentary film about the history of the car that is shown to passengers at the Wisconsin Great Northern in Trego, Wisconsin.
